The Proposal

After two and a half years of dating, Andrew proposed to Amanda on June 15, 2009.

Andrew and Amanda planned to go on vacation to the Outer Banks in June 2009 with Amanda's family. During this time, Andrew worked as an intern at SNL Financial in Charlottesville. In the week leading up to the vacation, Andrew took half a day off at work and drove 2.5 hours to Northern Virginia to purchase an engagement ring. Amanda still thought he was at work in Charlottesville. In order to disguise his activities, Andrew called Amanda an hour before he would get home saying that he was leaving work, when instead he was on his way back from Northern Virginia. The next day, Andrew asked Amanda's father for permission to marry her, and he was welcomed into the family.

While at the Outer Banks, Andrew suggested to Amanda that they go on a dinner date at Miller's, a waterfront restaurant. After a lovely dinner, they continued the date with a walk on the beach at sunset. When they took a break to admire the scenery, Andrew told Amanda that he had a surprise for her. He got down on one knee, pulled a little box out of his pocket, and asked, "Will you marry me?" Stunned and excited, Amanda answered, "Of course!" They then returned to the beach house to share the good news with their families.
